Welcome everyone to another edition of Throwback Thursday. Today, we are going to take you back to 1984, when Arena Rock & Synthpop were allllll the rage. Speaking of music havin that 1-2 punch combo, there was one song that embodied just that. When you think of Synthpop, Van Halen should be one of the last band's on your mind. However, it was the 1980s culture that helped hone one of the band's most famous songs ever.

When the song 'Jump' was released, it was a clear departure to what Van Halen had been known for. Songs such as, 'Running With The Devil', is a good example; that signature Eddie Van Halen riff as well as the rest of pounding hard rock. But with 'Jump', it was was different, yet the same. The same in that we have the signature 'Eddie Riff', but different because it contained that synth keyboard, which the entire song became famous for.

Because of this new addition to their sound, it helped catapult the band to Billboard's #1. This would be a first and only time for the band as well. However, they still continued to make their mark on Music History in the following years.

Throwback Thursday: Paula Abdul

It's that time again, and we are going to Throw it back to a time before American Idol made Paula Abdul a household name as a judge. Why, she was a household name before, because she was 'Forever Your Girl', especially in the 90s.

The story of Paula Abdul is well known. Once a Laker Girl, then a choreographer to Janet Jackson, it was only natural that Paula would take center stage. So when she broke out in the late 80s with her debut album 'Forever Your Girl', the face of pop music was never the same.

After releasing the 1st (Knocked Out) and 2nd (The Way That You Love Me) singles, it was obvious that Paula's star was on the rise. However, it was when she released the 3rd single, 'Straight Up', that put her on the celestial map.

Released in November of 1988, the single would help boost 'Forever Your Girl' to the top of the charts. It would also hit #1, and stay there for 3 weeks this day in 1989.

The mid 90s was a wonderful time for Music, especially for Musical Groups. However, one group in particular stood out from the rest. Made up of all women, TLC was a departure from the usual boybands of the time. With its three members, T-Boz, Left-Eye, and Chilli, it was a combination that had a date with Musical destiny.

With the release of their 2nd album, the anticipation of CrazySexyCool was high, and it over-succeeded in its expectaions. With its 1st single, 'Creep', the song and the video introduced us to a side of the girls that was not seen in their first album; a CrazySexyCool side...

Debuting on Halloween of 1994, the song would eventually climb the charts and reach #1 this day in 1994, as well as making 'CrazySexyCool' the group's best selling album of all-time.

Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday! In today's entry, we have a song that is sure to get u back into the 'New Jack Swing'... Let's Begin:

In the mid to late 1980s there was one musical group that that would influence the way music was heard, with the introduction of the ‘Boy Band’.

When ‘New Edition’ hit the scene, mainstream music hadn’t heard such a sound. Made up of members, Bobby Brown, Michael Bivens, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant, this was a group that was synonymous with 80s, just as Pac-Man was.

However, with their success, came the emerging of a new and controversial ‘star’. Bobby Brown, had became increasingly difficult to manage within the group. Although one of the most recognizable faces, it was almost certain that he would soon go on to begin his own solo music career.

In 1986, Brown woud release his 1st solo album, ‘King of Stage’. However, a King of the charts, he was not yet. It wasn’t until 1988, that Brown would release his 2nd solo album, ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, which would have him sitting on top of the charts… and the song that would do that would help everyone see his ‘Prerogative’.

As the 2nd single released from the album, Brown thought it imperative to let everyone know who he was and how he was going to be. The Bad Boy was in the building, and also eventually on top of the Billboard charts, this day in 1989...

Vampire Weekend - Contra

This is the 2nd album released by the Rock band, and although already available on Itunes (January 8th), it has been released everywhere else today. Already causing a sensation, the singles 'Horchata' & 'Sensations' give the listeners what they have been waiting for... A must have this week.

OK GO - Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky

This is the 2rd studio album from the group, and the main title is in reference to how blue light can cure illness. If it is from this album, then maybe this music as well. Look for the singles, 'WTF?' & 'This Too Shall Pass' to be definite chart climbers...

Paper Tongues - Ride To California

Now this is an EP drop of a rock group who will be on Tour with Switchfoot this year. From what I am hearing so far, look for Paper Tongues to become even bigger in the New Year... A must listen this week...

Omarion - Ollusion

This is the 3rd studio album from the former B2K singer, and looks to be quite a success on the R&B charts, as well as potential for a pop chart crossover. With the release of the 1st single, ‘I Get It In’, there was a bit of a change. Originally recorded with Lil Wayne, a label change from Young Money to EMI, had caused for Gucci Mane to lay down a rap instead. As for the 2nd single, ‘Speedin’, look for that to do well on the charts in the coming months. A must have this week…

Matt Morris - When Everything Breaks Open

This is the debut album for the former Mickey Mouse alum/singer/songwriter. The son of Country singer Gary Morris, it is obvious that the musical talent runs in the family. After having written songs for Music’s pop princesses Kelly Clarkson & Christina Aguilera (Miss Independent & Can’t Hold Us Down), Morris finally does right by letting his own material be heard. A must have…

Laura Veirs - July Flame

This is the 7th studio album from the Songstress/Songwriter, and with the title track being just as infectious as the rest of the album, it is a must have for this week. Look for another track, ‘Wide-Eyed, Legless’ to become just as popular as ‘July Flame’…

Heidi Montag - Superficial

This is the debut album of one of everybody’s favorite conservative reality television personalities, Heidi Montag (Sans Hubby Spencer Pratt, sadly). The album itself is modeled after Pop music’s favorite female icons, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Gwen Stefani. Given an electro pop feel, the album seems to be following the current trend. Given the artist, it also seems as if the album will not be given a fair listen. To be partial, if a listener didn’t know it was Ms. Montag, then the album would be hailed a must have.

When In Rome (Soundtrack)

A definite must have soundtrack for the week would be this one. With a nice mix of today’s popular artists, such as Matchbox 20, Paolo Nutini, 3OH!3, and Tina Parol, this soundtrack does not disappoint. Especially look for the single, ‘Kickin’ It With You’, from Jason Mraz, to be a breakout hit… a must have for this week…

The newest from Johnny Flynn, the EP "Sweet William," is a beautiful continuation of what Flynn started with his debut, A Larum. The songs run in the same new-folksy vein, accompanied perfectly by Flynn's clear voice. "Drum" is a little on the sparse side, but builds to a sparkling crescendo of layered vocals; and the title track is so bittersweet it must have a cocoa content of at least 90%.

Throughout musical history there have been many great duets that have overtaken the charts. From Sonny & Cher to Peaches & Herb, duos seem to make the music happen. However, one duo in particular made more than just music or history, but shock and awe instead... This duo was Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame, and Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.

In 1983, when the duo decided to sing the song 'Say Say Say', it was a meeting of two great musical minds. The song would eventually chart @ #1 (This day), however the controversy of the Beatles catalogues would soon follow, and like all good things, this duo came to an end...

Throwback Thursday: Boyz II Men

Welcome back to another edition of throwback Thursday. This week we are heading towards the year 1994, when the musical Quartet, Boyz II Men, were at the height of their popularity.

In the early 90’s, when Philly’s Finest (other than the Cheese Steak & Rocky), made their debut with ‘Cooleyhighharmony’, it was apparent that this group was sent to take over the R&B scene. However, it was with their single, ‘End of the Road’, that helped them crossover to mainstream success. Heck, even Oprah shed a tear at their performance.

It was after that, Boyz II Men came out with their follow-up, ‘II’. The first single released was “I’ll Make Love To You”. This song would sit atop the charts at #1 for 14 weeks, replacing ‘End Of The Road’ as the longest charting single of all-time (Which broke Elvis’ record).

But, this is not the most amazing feat done by the group. It was after releasing the 2nd single, ‘On Bended Knee’, that they would become the only the 3rd artist/group (Elvis & The Beatles, 1st & 2nd) to replace their own #1 with another #1. This song would be released November 1, 1994, and it would sit atop Billboards hot charts this day in 1994...

Allison Iraheta - Just Like You

This is the debut album from the former American Idol contestant, and it is primed to be right up there with the former winners of the contest. Only one thing, Iraheta did not win. This is the 9th studio album from the R&B singer/songwriter, and so far has generated much buzz. Initially supposed to be released in 2008, it was leaked, as well as the ensuing court case around Mr. Kelly, therefore production was halted. However, the album has been since released, and with its lead single, ‘Number One’ (featuring Keri Hilson), it seems R. Kelly is back to Rule the R&B charts. A must have this week…

This is a must have album for the Winter season, as it adds a unique touch to any music lovers library. Welcome to today's entry, Fashion Friday... It has been a long time since we have done this, but I thought it was best to resurect one of the most important topics that is soooo intertwined with Music. So, who better to spotlight than George Michael?

In the early 1990's George Michael went into the decade as not only as a sex symbol, but someone of a Fashion Icon. An Icon in not what he wore, but mainly who he showed. After having released the popular album, 'Faith', Michael's relationship with Sony Records began to falter. So when he released the single, 'Freedom 90', it was seen as an ode to his current situation with the record giant. When it came time to release the video, Michael refused to cooperate with then director David Fincher. This would be a decision that would make the British singer even more popular.

Today an Iconic video, Fincher enlisted the prowess and visual persuasion of the Supermodel. The Supermodel in the early 90s seemed to have rule the world, and in the case of 'Freedom', the airwaves as well. It would feature Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, as well as others. However, behind the beautiful ones, there stood some symbolic imagery for the singer. Such items that made him famous, were seen to be destroyed. Items like his famed leather jacket, was set on fire. The Jukebox featured in the 'Faith' video, along with his guitar, was blown up. This was a metamorphosis.

However, George Michael was not finished. One song that had been recorded while still with Sony Records, was eventually released. That song would be 'Too Funky'. In its release, it was part of a compilation album, 'Red Hot+Dance', with all procedes donated to the same cause, which is the fight against HIV & AIDS.

The video would be somewhat similar to 'Freedom', in that it would once again have models as the primary focus. However, George Michael would make an appearance this time, seeimg to be the director of all these wonderful Fashion divas. Those would include, Linda Evangelista (once again), Beverly Peele, Estelle Hallyday, and the debut of Tyra Banks.

Having noted both songs, it is obvious to see the impact George Michael has had on the Fashion world, as well as the Music one. There are artists still emulating what he crafted. A few examples would be Beyonce and Lady Gaga. For Beyonce's 'I Am... Tour' promotional photos, she wore the famous motorcyle jumper seen in the 'Too Funky' video.

As for Lady GaGa, she is seen wearing the Robo-cop/C3PO inspired metal outfit, also displayed in the 'Too Funky' video, for her own, 'Paparazzi'...

... And Just think, all of this was done simply by creating imagery that can coincide with music, to create a whole new world... So, enjoy your Fashion Friday, and please try and look stylish while doing so ;o)

But, this also gave us a whole day to properly review the new CD’s out there, as well as make this an extended edition off of Manic Music Monday… So what’s on Tap?

Shakira - She Wolf

This is the long awaited, 3rd studio album from the Colombian singer, and it is finally being released after being pushed back an entire month. Originally supposed to be released in October in the US, it was only released in global circulation, then later in the States. Aside from that, the album is a reinvention of sorts, as we see Shakira make a complete change in her sound. Originally rooted in rock, this album is a complete departure from those roots. With production from Timbaland & the Neptunes, Shakira makes herself an Electropop diva, never really missing a mark. With its lead single, ‘She Wolf’, the tone of the album is set, as we hear with other singles, such as ‘Give It Up To Me’ (Featuring Lil Wayne). Look for other songs, ‘Did It Again’ (Featuring Kid Cudi), ‘Gypsy’, & ‘Men In This Town’, to be radio-play worthy… A must have for this week...

Jay Sean - All or Nothing

This is the 3rd album from the British R&B singer, however in the U.S. it is his debut. A new face to the American Music scene, Jay Sean fits right in. With his lead single, ‘Down’ (Featuring Lil Wayne), we saw a definite hit from across the pond. By being a guest artist on other’s singles, Jay Sean has already created a name for himself for many years to come. Look for other songs, ‘Ain’t Got You’ (Featuring Drake), ‘Do You Remember’ (Featuring Lil Jon & Sean Paul), & ‘Stay’, to be other singles released... Another must have for this week...

This is the 4th album released from the Cash Money Records founder, and it seems the family can do no wrong. An album with collaborations from Lil Wayne, Timbaland, Drake, T-Pain, Kevin Rudolf, & Bun B, this is a Rap Music Lover’s dream. This is the 2nd studio album from the Alternative Pop group, and has already been highly anticipated and long awaited. Originally released as a countdown via Itunes, the singles ‘Everybody Loves Me’, ‘All The Right Moves’, and ‘Secrets’ have been offered, before the album was released. Look for this to have a huge impact on the pop charts. Another must have for this week.

'Remove Silence’s album Fade begins by dialoguing with the end. The first song leaves no doubt about it: it’s called The End has Begun. It’s the trouble brought about by love and other ailments ("To cross the lines/I need you more than I have") in the words and chords of Hugo Mariutti (guitars and vocals), Alexandre Souza (bass and vocals), Fabio Ribeiro (keyboards) and Edu Cominato (drums and vocals). Heavy and melodic condiments manipulated with the wisdom of experienced chefs. It’s worth noting that although a relatively new group, it’s formed by musicians that have been involved with the heaviest of Brazilian music: Mariutti used to be in Shaman and currently plays with Andre Matos, as well as his work with Henceforth; Ribeiro has played with Angra, Shaman and also plays with Andre Matos; and finally, Cominato currently plays with Tempestt, the band that toured with Jeff Scott Soto in Europe and Latin America in 2008. Produced by the band themselves and mastered in the US by israeli Maor Appelbaum, the song Fade is irresistibly groovy and spatial. The high point could be the horror-movie-soundtrack-like second part. This song, which has been played by Brasil 2000 FM radio station, has also been turned into a video clip by the hands of director Patrick Nicholas Korb. Pressure commences loud and brimming with riffs: “Now you know who you are” is the sentence.The low toned piano of Dirty Ashtray’s intro announces that it won’t be the best day. After all, in other to face it, the character in the song has a supply of pills, burning cigarettes that pile up in the ashtray and existential questionings. It's one of the most beautiful and striking songs in the album. Fast Turnover carries forward the character’s fears, but praises constant parting. Where will the children live flirts with desolation. Quite a sad song, where yelling and whispering take turns, as in an Ingmar Bergman piece, so as to question the kids’ fate. Ministry of ghostland and Black again go for innovative noises, constructions and tempos. The spatial sonority, for lack of a better word, of the initial tracks is back with When the madness fills the space and Out of time. Dream Brother, written by the ill-fated north-american Jeff Buckley, brings the album to an end. And we don’t miss the silence at all.
