International Spotlight: Rodrigo y Gabriela

Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero are a Duo that hail from Mexico City, Mexico.

The two met as teenagers and shared a love of Heavy Metal Music, in which they both participated in the Mexican Metal group Tierra Acida.

As the band dissolved, the duo crafted their acoustic style by teaching and playing in different clubs.

After feeling the opportunities in the Americas were slim for success, the duo traveled to Dublin, Ireland. While there, they worked as street performers on the famous Grafton Street and in the Temple bar district.

It was in Dublin where they networked with many other musical contacts, such as Damien Rice, who would later ask them to join his tour.

In 2001, The released their 1st album, “Foc”. In 2003, they released their 2nd solo album, “Re-Foc”. In 2004, a live album entitled, “Live: Manchester and Dublin”, was released.

In 2006, they released the self-titled album, “Rodrigo y Gabriela”. It would become the #1 album in Ireland.

The album includes covers of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ & Metallica’s ‘Orion’.

The Songs ‘Tamacun’ & ‘Diablo Rojo’ would become best selling singles from the Duo’s Album.

In 2006, they released another Live album, “Live In Japan”.

In September, 2009, they will release a new album, entitled 11:11. The album contains a collaboration entitled, 'Atman', with Testament guitarist, Alex Skolnick. The single provides a powerful display of their acoustic talents.

Look for Rodrigo y Gabriela to blaze up the International charts with their new release.
