Fashion Friday Artist Spotlight: Karen O.
The Music World has been known for its fashionistas, but once in a while a songstress comes along that impacts the way we listen and see music. Through vocal performance, an artist is able to interpret more than just music: They are also able to interpret their personal style. One female who does this extremely well is Karen O. of the ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’.
Born Karen Lee Orzolek, on November 22, 1978 in South Korea (later growing up in New Jersey), it would seem she would draw her creativity from not just the external environment presented outside her family, but from within as well. Born in a multi-ethnic household, her mother being Korean and her father being Polish, Karen was able to channel this in her music and style.
With the formation of the ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’, Karen, along with Brian Chase and Nick Zinner, were able to create an alternative, yet artistic sound. It was with this, Karen Orzolek transformed herself into simply, Karen O. With their numerous performances, it had become apparent that Music & Fashion has once again collided to create another fascinating moment in Music History.
Wearing outfits created by friend, Christian Joy, the singer had been able to put her group on the proverbial map. Recognized for great sound and music, Karen O and the rest of her group would be highly noted for their avant-garde performances, and because of this their lead singer would become a style icon for the present day…
So here she is, Karen O. Of The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs…
YEAH, YEAH, YEAHS - ZERO
YEAH, YEAH, YEAHS - HEADS WILL ROLL
